Augmented reality is the integration of digital information with the user’s environment in real time. Unlike virtual reality, which creates a totally artificial environment, augmented reality uses the existing environment and overlays new information on top of it. Augmented reality applications are written in special 3D programs that allow the developer to tie animation or contextual digital information in the computer program to an augmented reality “user” in the real world.

Springfields developed an application for  Better Work Indonesia – International Labour Organization that is programmed to display overlay instructional videos for Occupational Health and Safety procedures. The application created allowed a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment through any mobile device, with elements that are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video or graphics to support garment factory workers with disabilities.
